welcome to the south of france!
we took the train from geneva to the south of france, ending up in cannes to stay for three nights at the magnificent j.w. marriott cannes, courtesy of some serious ww marriott-points. this hotel itself was one of the high points of our trip - amazing room, views, service, food and location. not to mention a killer breakfast on the patio each morning, and a welcome surprise with all my favorite food groups:

from what i could tell, the purpose of being in cannes (unless you're attending the film festival) is to relax... and do some serious people-watching. there isn't much else there...which for two griswald-esque tourists, can be a good thing. we took full advantage of spending time on the sand-beach in front of our hotel, and cooling off in the mediterranean.
and had a great dinner outside at l'assiette d'provencale on the port, where we enjoyed the first of many nicoise salads and bandol rosés that we would consume in the south of france.
it is always therapeutic to spend a few days in the sun...
no matter where you are.
