paris part three: bastille day

we were lucky enough to have our paris trip fall on bastille day: july 14, 2012.  it was pretty amazing to be in paris during france's most important national holiday.  there was a military parade & a night-time celebration at the eiffel tower with fireworks and an entire playlist of american 80's music. (we thought that was strange too. but also awesome.)

we started our day with an incredible breakfast at angelina (pictures here), watched the parade, strolled through the tuilieres gardens, visited the louvre, notre dame, isle st. louis, the marais neighborhood, and my very favorite museum in the world, the musee d'orsay.

after dinner, we followed the masses over to the eiffel tower with a bottle of wine to watch the fireworks. the show was incredible, and we had so much fun being a part of such a unique patriotic experience.

this beautiful stop motion video, "paris in motion", by photographer mayeul akpoovi captures a bit of the bastille day firework magic. you can watch it here.
